What's New in the Second Edition

The new and improved School-Connect includes most of the lessons from the first edition (c) 2006 along with a new emphasis on helping students engage in learning and think proactively about their future. The Second Edition includes the following modifications:
- Changed the name of Module 3 to “Building Academic Strengths and Purpose,” reflecting our new emphasis on tying high school education to long-term goals, career options, and higher education.
- Reordered Module 3 lesson sequence for better flow and scaffolding of concepts and skills.
- Updated and simplified the Exploring Underlying Beliefs lesson. Based on new research, the lesson is now called Growing Your Mindset.
- Added relevance to the Looking Ahead lesson. Students now create a monthly budget for a 30-year-old adult and then compare monthly incomes among high school graduates, college graduates, and profe
ssional degree grads.
- Added the Exploring College & Career Options lesson. Students research careers of interest and identify education requirements for their career choice.
- Added the Developing Academic Support lesson. Students reflect on their current academic habits and performance and then identify academic resources and social supports within their peer group, family and school environment.
- Simplified and consolidated some lessons, such as reducing the vocabulary list to a more manageable 15 words in the Improving Memory Skills lesson.
- Strengthened the Preparing for Tests lesson by adding several new study strategies and stress-reduction techniques.
- In Module 2, added a new handout and revised an existing handout in Lesson 2.2: Being Aware of Our Emotions. This revised lesson is now available online on our sample lessons page.
The newly revised “Module 3: Building Academic Strengths and Purpose” is available at a reduced price of $39 for current customers who purchased the first edition of School-Connect. CLICK here for more information about purchasing a replacement Module 3 and updated CD-ROM of handouts.
